Mr Glen received 18.9 per cent of first preference votes which was the most of any candidate and campaigned with a "back to basics approach."

LACHLAN Glen has resigned from Golden Plains Shire Council a month into the four-year term.

Mr Glen cited personal circumstances as the reason for his resignation.

“This was a difficult decision to make, especially so early into the council term, but personal circumstances mean I am now in a position where I need to weigh the needs of my family against my service to the Shire,” Mr Glen said in a statement on his campaign page on Facebook.

“My family will win that contest every time.”

Mr Glen received 18.9 per cent of first preference votes which was the most of any candidate and campaigned with a “back to basics approach.”

“I know this will come as a disappointment to those who voted for me, and I am disappointed as well, but your vote was not wasted,” he said.

“The message from residents in support of my focus on core services has been heard loud and clear.”

A statement from Golden Plains Shire said they are awaiting guidance from the Victorian Electoral Commission about filling the vacancy.
