THE much-loved Homecrafts Competition will once again be a highlight of the Royal Geelong Show this October, with more than three thousand entries set to impress visitors.

For art and photography to cookery, cake decorating, needlework, crochet, woodwork, horticulture and woolcraft, this year’s program is one of the most expansive in recent memory.

The competitions are open to both seasoned and first-time exhibitors, with classes ranging from men’s cookery to special needs categories.

Children can also get creative across more than 30 junior divisions.

Homecrafts coordinator Gail Jordens, now in her sixth year, and said she was thrilled with the level of community involvement this year.

“We’ve got 721 school entrants and then in the adult sections, excluding horticulture, we have 2,232, which is super exciting,” she said.

“Amazingly, this year we’ve got 276 entries into jams and preserves, which is an enormous number, and strong numbers in things like honey, salami, beer and eggs.

“There’ll truly be something there for everyone. We’ve got such a great diversity of entries that we can’t wait to roll out.”

Ms Jordens praised the “army of volunteers” who make the competition possible.

“There’s an enormous amount of work that goes into it, but we just love it.

“Whether you’ve entered the most magnificent item or something that’s not quite up to that standard just yet, all will be displayed and showed off.”

While items will not be for sale at the event, the organising committee is happy to pass on exhibitor details to interested buyers.
