Create art class all about upcycling
LOCAL artist Lyn Lambeth will be in Bannockburn next month running a workshop about creating art by upcycling materials.
Lambeth was previously a professional fisher and now focuses her art on making mixed media sculptures with recycled materials.
“I’ve always had an interest in the environment and sustainability so I like to reuse things as much as I can,” she said.
“I moved to Linton from Darwin just two years ago and I had been working at sea seeing firsthand the increase in the amount of plastics in the ocean around the remote islands where I was commercially fishing.
“That led to me working with the commercial fishing industry to clean up Darwin Harbour.”
The workshop will be suitable for all skill levels and aims to combine art with sustainability and protecting the environment.
“I’ll be bringing along some bits and pieces that I feel could inspire people to make something and giving them a few ideas,” said Lambeth.
“I’ve got a collection of old bed springs that I thought would make something nice and it’s whatever the participants think.”
Lambeth hopes the session will inspire the community to have conversations about recycling and protecting the environment.
“I hope people think about what materials they use a little bit more in the future and how they might incorporate things that are usually thrown away into their creative practice,” she said.
“Also to have some conversations with people along the way.”
The session will take place at Bannockburn Library on Tuesday 31 October from 1pm until 3pm and register visit the Golden Plains Shire website.
