MEMBERS of the Rokewood Cricket Club are looking to drum up funding and attention in forming a juniors side for the upcoming season with a day of golf.

Scheduled to take place this Sunday 22 September at the Rokewood Golf Club, the event will entail a two-person ambrose competition.

Organiser and cricket club representative Peter Robertson said the day will be foremost about connection.

“The cricket club was in administration for about five years and we came back last season with a seniors team,” he said.

“We’re trying to get the juniors up and running, which hasn’t been running the same amount of time, and to get the local community to come along and support the establishment of a juniors side with a social outing to build relationships.”

The cricket club’s situation could well have been mirrored by the golf club, whose management recently faced their own near-death experience for the group.

The former went into caretaker mode early last year due to waning numbers before being assisted by community.

“We’ve actually got a few of the golf club committee on the team, and we have others on their membership so we want to build that relationship and keep both organisations going,” Mr Robertson said.

The cricket club’s resurrection saw 22 seniors fielded to compete in the Grenville Cricket Association’s previous season.

About a dozen young people have expressed interest in joining a juniors team, and the growing under 16s side held their first training session on Thursday.

“There’s only four junior teams in the Grenville league so we’re just about getting numbers together,” Mr Robertson said.

“There’s no skills required. We just want to build friendships for the younger generation around the community.”

Participation for the golf day will cost $25 per person. Though walk-ins on the day are allowed, RSVP is preferred and can be done by contacting [email protected].
