KELLIE Tait founded AAA Sports Ballarat as a safe place for all abilities kids to play sport.

When she took her son Cooper who has autism to the local Auskick program with 100 children and one coach, three and a half years ago, she knew it wasn’t going to work.

AAA Sports exists to provide introductory sporting opportunities for children with  special needs and disabilities.

The organisation was this year’s recipient of Ballarat Scenic Cyclists Club’s annual fundraising event.

Ms Tait said she was very grateful and surprised to receive the donation.

“I’m not sure how they found me and AAA Sports, but the money will come in handy to go towards new equipment,” she said.

“We use special stands for the kids in wheelchairs and we use balls with bells inside for blind children.”

Shirley McIver, Treasurer of the cycling club was at the Ballarat Sportswomen Presentation Dinner when Ms Tait received an award.

“I thought it sounded like a terrific organisation so I put AAA Sports forward when we were deciding who we should donate to this year,” Ms McIver said.
