Day of cricket raises $40k for hospital
AROUND forty thousand dollars was raised by the Friends of India Network last weekend across their Twenty 20 cricket match and gala dinner.
Generating funds for a Fast Track facility at Ballarat Health Services’ emergency department, Ballarat’s Indian Lions beat the Rest of Ballarat Raiders at Ballarat Grammar on Saturday, before 300 people headed to the Civic Hall for an evening of celebration.
FIN president, Dr Sanjay Sharma said a red carpet was rolled out for all the glamourous guests before they enjoyed drinks, dinner by Peter Ford Catering, a six-piece band, a DJ, photobooth and words from a special presenter.
“We had Brad Hodge giving a speech about his experiences and cricket journey. He gave away the awards, trophies and medals,” he said.
“We had lots of lucky dips, raffles, live and silent auctions. It was all themed around cricket. It was a very enjoyable night.”
The network is grateful for the generosity of individuals and businesses who supported the day.
“It really signifies how people pour their heart out to raise money for a community cause,” Dr Sharma said.
“The emergency department was the main focus and it does a fantastic job, providing the best emergency facilities in the regional area.
“But we’re trying to get even better, timely care for people who…can be quickly treated and sent home.”
In 2019, 150 people attended FIN’s gala dinner at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute, raising $10,000 to ‘strike out stroke.’
The group is proud to have doubled their attendance this year at the new venue, quadrupling their fundraising.
