Dean CWA branch celebrates 80 years of service
DEAN’S Country Women’s Association branch turned 80 in October.
To celebrate the occasion, members from Dean’s sister branch, Monbulk, along with past members and group presidents were invited to a special celebratory lunch.
The Dean President, Phyllis Quick OAM, welcomed everyone and the minutes of the first meeting held on October 8, 1938 were read.
The remembrance candle was lit and the names of past members who had died were acknowledged. The
Evergreen Choir sang several songs including the CWA hymn.
Dean branch member Nina Netherway said it was fortunate to have the State President, Lyn Harris OAM, and also Group President, Mary Richards attended.
They were both presented with flowers and spoke briefly, giving good wishes to the Branch.
While there was no birthday cake, there was a floral arrangement around three candles emulating the thirty-first birthday cake of the branch.
The candles were lit by Ms Harris OAM, Ms Richards and Pam Lockhart, Dean Branch Secretary who had arranged the floral ‘cake’.
Happy birthday was sung, and the candles fanned out by our oldest past member Mrs Sylvia Palmer, Phyllis Boustead, the daughter-in-law of our first Treasurer and Diane Bloemhoff from Monbulk our sister branch.
A wonderful time was had by all.
