IN partnership with the Shire and its Active Golden Plains initiative, Sports Central is set to facilitate a series of four bootcamps at Dereel.

Encouraging residents from the Shire’s north to participate, the Saturday morning sessions at Dereel Community Centre will run after lockdown for free and will cater to people of a beginner or intermediate fitness level.

The initiative, which was originally designed to be delivered in 2020, aims to get rural communities back to activity after the interruptions of the pandemic, and connecting with one another socially.

“It is a low impact full-body workout class that incorporates all of the muscle groups to get your body moving and improve overall health,” A Sports Central spokesperson said.

“We’ve worked with the Golden Plains Shire on a number of different projects in the past, and we have a strong connection with them. This partnership has been really supportive, and it’s great to be able to deliver these sorts of events in small towns.

“We’d love to partner with other clubs and organisations in the north of Golden Plains in terms of physical activity, especially with young people, supporting them through pathway programs if they need.”

The sessions will run for one hour from 9am. Dereel Community Centre is based at 14 Swamp Road, Dereel. You will need to bring your own water bottle and sweat towel, however all other equipment will be supplied.

Register your interest with Sports Central by calling 5331 6966 or by filling in a Google form at bit.ly/3BbZKUN. Organisers will let those interested know when the series begins.

Similar full-body workouts have been facilitated at the far north of the Shire in Smythesdale and Haddon.

A series of cardio drumming sessions is currently in development for the community of Rokewood, estimated to begin in late-October.
