Desserts to help fund cancer support
AUSTRALIA’S Biggest Morning Tea, held every year around the country to raise money for Cancer Council, is nearly here with a local event taking place at Bannockburn.
Donna Boh of Donna’s Desserts is set to host a Biggest Morning Tea at the Bannockburn and District Bowls Club from 10am on Friday 24 May.
“This will be a way to meet some of the locals and raise funds for something that’s really important to me,” she said.
“It’s not set yet but we’re probably going to have some cupcakes, slices, scones, truffles, things like that.”
Entry for the event is free with raffles from $5, silent auctions from $2 and games from $2.
Keeping with the spirit of the event, the bowls club operators are donating the cost of the venue hire instead of charging it.
This year will mark a decade for Ms Boh of hosting Biggest Morning Tea events and she said like many, she has a personal connection to the cause.
“My mum was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and passed away in 2016,” she said. “I’ve been trying to raise funds since she was diagnosed in the hope there’ll be a cure for someone else eventually.
“Everyone’s been touched by cancer in some way and it’s unfortunate how common it is so it’s important to help in these sorts of ways.”
Ms Boh estimated she averages $300 each year for Cancer Council and has raised more than $3000 for the Biggest Morning Tea locally since moving to the region in 2018.
This year will be her first local in-person event following three held online.
RSVPing is required by Thursday and can be done by calling 0436 633 553.
