STAGE one of the Bannockburn Plaza redevelopment was opened to the public over the weekend.

Rebranded as Bannockburn Central Shopping Centre, a spokesperson for the development said the revised space expands on the old plaza.

Staff at Bannockburn Central’s Woolworths supermarket celebrated the opening with a cake cutting.

“It’s dramatically extended the amount of car spaces and the plaza’s been modernised with some touches of connection to the district with photography of the area on the walls,” the spokesperson said.

“In stage one we’ve got Woolworths, BWS, the chemist and post office coming across from the existing plaza.

“We also have Kaisercraft, Baker’s Delight, Ferguson Plarre and a tobacconist opening as new tenancies.”

Kaisercraft staff members Chelsea Riseley, Fleur Gunner and Laura Edwards were on hand for the store’s opening.

The doors opened on Saturday morning with a sausage sizzle hosted by Bannockburn CFA, and a ribbon cutting ceremony at Woolworths, where an additional 30 employees are estimated to have been hired.

Stage one works on the redeveloped Bannockburn Central Shopping Centre began mid-last year with stage two set to get underway at the start of 2023.

The pre-existing plaza houses 12 shops which set to double once the second phase of the redevelopment is complete.

The spokesperson said the aim of the redeveloped plaza is to deliver an enhanced shopping experience for the community.

“It’ll mean more shops, more carparks, and a partial demolition of about two-thirds of the existing plaza,” he said.

Members of Bannockburn SES held a sausage sizzle alongside the opening, with Steve McPail, Captain Shannon Robinson, and Glenn Morrison involved.

“Bannockburn Central raises the retail standard on offer to Bannockburn and the district and provides for a greater mix of retail.

“As an estimate, I would say there’s around 50 to 60 new jobs as part of stage one.

“This expansion will bring better shopping, more range, more jobs, more car parking, all the things you’d expect from a shopping centre.”

Stage two works for Bannockburn Central are set to begin next year.
