Easter fun at community party
ROKEWOOD locals were treated to an early taste of Easter last Sunday as Westwind Energy, backers of the nearby Golden Plains Wind Farm, put on a party at the town’s rec reserve.
The function was a way of saying thank you to the community by the wind energy generator.
“We’re coming to town with a big project and we’re going to be neighbours for many many years,” said West Wind Energy spokesperson Matt Hustwaite.
“It’s a nice thing to do and we’ve got a wonderfully supportive community, and we love being able to put on things to entertain and say thanks for their support.”
The party featured a visit from the Easter Bunny along with egg hunts, face painting, games, live music and food.
“It’s a nice chance for everyone to come together and enjoy Easter,” Mr Hustwaite said. “It’s a way for us to thank the community and bring a little bit of Easter fun to the town.”
The party isn’t the only initiative of the company, with community grants programs and donations to the local school also ongoing.
“We just recently funded a new playground for the primary school, and we’ll be putting in a community electricity program,” Mr Hustwaite said.
“It’s just the right thing to do. When you’re coming into a community its important to listen to what the community wants.”
When completed the Golden Plains Warm will be one of the biggest in the southern hemisphere with up to 228.
