GOLDEN Plains Shire Council’s edible gardens program will return next month to promote sustainability and self-sufficiency.

The workshops, which will run from May until July, will be hosted by horticulturist Craig Castree.

Topics covered in the sessions will include using gardens to reduce energy costs, how to become more self-sufficient, companion planting, composting and food waste, pruning and grafting, edible gardens for beginners and more.

“Edible gardens has proven to be one of our most successful and popular programs that is loved by many across the Shire, and we’re excited to deliver it to the community once again,” Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Sarah Hayden said.

“We look forward to welcoming back Craig and the wealth of knowledge he brings.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to level up your gardening skills and abilities while learning how to nurture your garden.”

The first workshop will be held on Tuesday 6 May from 10.30am until 1pm at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre.

Sessions will also be held online and at Dereel and Smythesdale.
