PREPARING for your future is the topic of an upcoming session entitled Dying to Know in Bannockburn.

Lawyer, Anna Smith, will host the event that’ll discuss how to create end of life wishes and decide who will provide support through a power of attorney.

“It’s about assisting people who are mindful of aging and want to plan for older age and dying,” said Emma Wheatland manager of community wellbeing at Golden Plains Shire.

“Residents will be guided through a four-step process.”

That process includes thinking about what older age will look like, talking to trusted people, getting documentation in order, and formalising those steps in legal documents.

“I think it gives people dignity as they age, and as they go through the dying process,” said Ms Wheatland.

“I think as a culture we maybe don’t talk about the dying process as much as we should and that probably leaves people vulnerable.”

Ms Wheatland encouraged the community to get involved and come along.

“I think any form of preparation for your health and wellbeing is important,’’ she said. “It also empowers your loved ones so they can make decisions at really challenging times.”

The event will be held on Tuesday 8 August from 11.30am until 12.30pm at 27 High Street Bannockburn.

Bookings can be made via [email protected] or on 5220 7151.
