LOCAL community groups, organisations and businesses in Golden Plains are invited to submit an expression of interest to host an event for the Victorian Seniors Festival.

The festival will run throughout October and will include events and activities that allow older adults to connect.

Golden Plains Shire will coordinate a program of events and community groups can get involved by hosting an open day, a come and try session, or discounted activities.

“Council is proud to support this State Government initiative, and each year the seniors festival gives our residents an opportunity to create social connections, keep active and celebrate the important contributions of older Australians,” Golden Plains Shire acting mayor Cr Helena Kirby said.

“Hosting events for seniors in our local communities offers remarkable benefits for everyone involved – enhancing social connections, boosting mental and physical health, and fostering a sense of belonging.

“Events such as musical evenings, day trips, open days, community lunches or art workshops provide seniors a platform to meet new people and strengthen existing relationships.”

Groups interested in participating are asked to inform the Shire so the activities can be included in promotional material.

The events will be advertised through a printed program, social media, the Golden Plains Shire website, email marketing and other channels.

“We want to ensure there are a range of free or low-cost events throughout the Shire during October, and we would like to help promote these events as early as possible,” Cr Kirby said.

Expressions of interest are due by 31 July and can be made by calling 5220 7111 or emailing [email protected] .
