Evans says he’s one and done
GOLDEN Plains Shire councillor David Evans has announced he will not seek re-election in 2020. Cr Evans made the statement following the vote for Mayor last week.
“I’m not going anywhere near this place again,” he said. “I’ll be out. I’ve had a gutful.
“I was on the ratepayer association for three years fighting council. Going to meeting after meeting, going through budgets, putting in submissions. I understand it inside out, to get on here and do a good job, [and] what do I get?
“I’ve wasted basically six years of my life… we haven’t achieved a single thing that I wanted to do.”
Cr Evans stood for the role of Mayor but couldn’t find a seconder and had to drop out of the race.
“Seeing as I’m the hardest working councillor in the Shire, without a doubt, to go to every meeting fully briefed, read every single document, know the finances. It’s me who understands it all,” he said.
“Fundamentally I’ve been shit in the face. I got on council to be open and consultative and to be honest, and they hate it. They hate me when I say the truth.”
The next municipal elections are set for late October in 2020.
