LIKE an Aladdin’s cave, Every Little Crumb is a wonderful and exciting Christmas pop up shop where the canny buyer can purchase some very special homemade cakes, puddings and biscuits and individually hand-crafted decorations and gifts.

Every Little Crumb is the creation of professional chef Cathryn Harris who is providing beautifully packaged mince pies, Christmas puddings and shortbreads.

Ms Harris has a passion for all things sweet and is currently decorating a wedding cake, in time for some lucky couple’s important day. High teas for young ladies are also a speciality with cupcakes, eclairs and yoyos always on the menu.

Her mother, graphic designer and craft creator, Gayle Hart lovingly hand stitches every piece of craft, from elephants and secret opening boxes to reindeers and gift cards.

When a charming space became available in Lydiard Street South, Ballarat, Ms Harris thought it was too good an opportunity not to give a retail outlet a trial run. You can’t miss the shop, with its bright red bow inviting you to step inside and feast your eyes on all the Christmas goodies.

Ms Harris said that she was building quite a reputation as a specialty cake decorator and thought now is the time to test the waters.

“We have only been open a couple of weeks, but we have received some lovely and encouraging feedback from customers,” she said.

After ten years working at the Ballarat Art Gallery as publicist Ms Hart said that she just cannot keep still and really enjoys making things from paper or fabric.

“I was trained in graphic design, and I have a studio in Humffray Street where I love creating intricate and individual pieces that give pleasure to the owner. Customers have said that when there is so much rampant consumerism around at this time of year it’s lovely to give and receive something that has been made by hand. They seem to appreciate the work that has gone into each product. I know that both Cathryn and I are delighted to be able to give so much pleasure to others by what we do,” she said.

Ms Hart has a fine eye for detail and has brought her artistic flair to displaying the wares. There really is something for everyone and for every budget, from inexpensive felt stars to beautiful boxes, to delicious and tempting shortbreads and puddings.

During December Every Little Crumb will be open every day. Monday – Wednesday 10am – 3pm, Thursday – Friday 10am – 6pm and Saturday – Sunday 10am – 2pm.
