Exchange student off to Finland

THE Rotary Club of Ballarat has announced that Kira Feeney is the Club’s outbound exchange student for 2019 and will be living and studying in Finland for a year.

Before being selected to be part of the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program, Kira undertook extensively interviews, group activities and made presentations to secure the opportunity.

Barbara Glass, the Club’s student counsellor stated said the Club is extremely proud of what Kira has achieved and members know that she will be a great ambassador the Club, the City of Ballarat, Victoria and the nation while living in Kotka, Finland.

Kira has just completed an outstanding Year 11 at Mt Clear Secondary College with a special focus on her passions for soccer, musical performance and language studies.

She said is really looking forward to immersing herself in both the Finnish culture and language while abroad.

During her exchange, she will live with the families of three Finnish Rotarians who will give her into Finnish culture.

She will also continue her studies at the local senior high school.

In addition, the exchange program will provide Kira with the opportunity to travel extensively through Europe with exchange students from other countries.

City of Ballarat mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh asked Kira to extend the greetings of the city the citizens of Kotka and looks forward hearing news from Kira on a regular basis.
