OLDER people with an interest in sharpening their social media skills can take part in a free introduction to Facebook session at Bannockburn Library.

On Thursday 12 October from 2.30pm, library staff will show attendees what the platform has to offer, including how to connect with their friends digitally, and follow groups.

“Facebook can be more than just fun, it can help you connect with old friends, find local events or share photos with loved ones,” said Geelong Regional Libraries CEO Vanessa Schernickau.

“Our friendly team will guide you through the ins and outs of getting set up on Facebook. Chat to the team at Bannockburn, or book in online.”

The session has been backed by the State Government’s Digital Literacy for Seniors Program.

“Seniors can brush up on digital skills by booking into our building digital skills and digital literacy sessions, designed to empower people with the digital knowledge needed in today’s world,” Ms Schernickau said.

“You can also book a librarian for a one-on-one session where they will help you make the most of the library’s resources and services. These free sessions are available year-round.”

The Facebook how-to also comes under Geelong Regional Libraries’ Victorian Seniors Festival celebrations which include sessions, activities, and workshops aiming to inspire, engage, and connect people over the age of 60.

“Our libraries are safe and welcoming spaces for people to come together and connect, and this month we shine the spotlight on seniors,” Ms Schernickau said.
