Family-run wine pours from cellar door
AFTER several weeks in operation, Austin’s Wines officially launched their new cellar door at their Sutherlands Creek vineyard last week.
The family-owned business has hosted several pop-up events in the past, but owner Scott Austin said he’s excited for customers to be able to enjoy their wines on the property itself.
“It’s another string to the bow of the business,” he said.
“Historically the business has been growing grapes and making wine here and selling it to the local restaurants and bottle shops.
“But this is really the final stage of development for the business. People can now drink a bottle of wine here where none of the ingredients have actually left the farm.”
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble was present for the celebration, and opened the building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The cellar door took over five years of development, and sports a rustic look in reference to the building’s previous life as a shearing shed.
The winery’s founder, Richard Austin, took part in the landscaping of the project, and said he was pleased for it to finally be up and running.
“It’s been a long time coming and we’re happy that it’s come together really well. We’ve got a great staff manning the operation,” he said.
“We tried to keep the original look of the building as a shearing shed and we wanted to bring some comfort and style to it as well.
“We’re already being booked out for the next few weeks which is just amazing.”
The cellar door will be open Thursdays to Mondays from 11am to 5pm for wine tastings and restaurant bookings, with the kitchen operating on weekends from 12pm to 4pm.
