AFTER over thirty years in business, agricultural equipment supplier Westag will soon operate as part of an expanding franchise.

From the beginning of July, the store will become the Ballarat branch of Growers Service, a family-run supplier originating from Renmark, South Australia.

Westag was established in 1987 by Michael Tuddenham and Mr Meagher, who will be supporting Growers Services in integrating with the business.

Mr Meagher will introduce customers to the owners, and from the beginning of August he will head promotional events and attending field days in a reduced, semi-retired capacity.

After 35 years in charge, he said he’s looking forward to putting his feet up a bit.

“I certainly wasn’t expecting to step down yet but it seemed a good opportunity for someone new to take over,” he said.

“I’m pleased for the future of Westag and I’ll be staying on as long as I like, this time working one or two days a week as opposed to the usual.

“It’ll be nice to have a bit of a quieter life with the business. I’ve certainly got a bit to look back on.”

Growers Service’s started in 1946, and with locations in Mildura, Berri, Griffith, Swan Hill, Renmark, CEO Luke Ayling said Ballarat will be a great addition to their expansion.

“We’re excited for the diversity it’ll bring us. With our other branches, most of our business is for irrigation and crops and Ballarat will be very different with livestock and lifestyle,” he said.

“Westag already has a great team we’re wanting to grow alongside streamlining their customer service and giving them more resources.”
