FECRI funds in the bank
FEDERATION University’s Children’s Centre Christmas Party last year raised funds for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
A FECRI spokesperson said the organisation was thrilled to receive a cheque for nearly $3900 from money raised by selling entry tickets, sausages and raffle tickets at the party from the Children’s Centre.
This is the third year the children’s centres, located at the Mt Helen and SMB campuses, have undertaken the effort at Christmas and their support is crucial to ongoing work at the Institute.
“As a non-government funded research facility, we rely on community donations to continue our important research,” said Professor George Kannourakis, Honorary Director at FECRI.
The FECRI team currently has nine PhD students from Fed Uni and 10 senior scientific staff whose recent achievements have included identification of potential new immunotherapy targets for ovarian cancer and detection of a new immune cell subset in histiocytic disorders.
