FEDERATION University TAFE celebrated its best and brightest students at the 2019 TAFE Division Awards for Excellence at the Mt Helen campus recently.

The ceremony acknowledged the hard work and dedication TAFE students bring to their studies at FedUni.

Certificate III Carpentry student, Jai Sharp won the Apprentice of the Year award, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ballarat South, and Diploma of Nursing student, Maddison Svanosio took home the Trainee of the Year award.

Mr Sharp said his award is the result of working to a high standard.

“Through hard work, dedication and passion for what you do, anything can be achieved,” he said.

“I’m so appreciative to have been given the opportunity to apply for Apprentice of the Year, let alone be lucky enough to have been presented the award. I value the privilege of having access to an enormous amount of resources that comes with being an apprentice at Federation University, and the relationships I have built so far have with teachers and students has had a massively positive effect on my learning.”

He can’t wait for his carpentry career to grow.

“I’m looking forward to taking on more responsibility and eventually trying to work for myself. The prospect of running my own jobs and continuing to teach other people really excites me,” Mr Sharp said.

Over 30 of the TAFE school’s future leaders and innovators were recognised at the awards ceremony.
