THE Golden Plains shire’s draft Fair Access Policy is now open for feedback from community members.

The policy was endorsed for exhibition at last month’s council meeting and feedback will be accepted until Thursday 23 May at 9am.

From July, all Victorian Local Government Areas are required to have a Fair Access Policy in order to remain eligible for Victorian Government and recreational infrastructure funding.

The aim of the policy and the introduction of the Fair Access Policy Roadmap by the Victorian Government is to ensure women and girls have equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from community sport.

“The Fair Access Policy Roadmap aims to address barriers faced by women and girls in utilising community sports infrastructure,” said mayor Cr Brett Cunningham.

“Council recognises the significance of providing equal opportunity in sport for local women and girls, and the draft policy takes a step forward fostering a more inclusive and equitable landscape across the Shire.

“Most importantly, the draft policy aligns with Council’s efforts to activate community facilities and provide safe and welcoming access to community sports infrastructure.”

Last month, workshops were held in Smythesdale and Bannockburn designed to help local clubs understand the implications of the policy.

Feedback can be provided on the Golden Plains Shire website, by email to [email protected] or mailed to Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC, 3331.

The policy will be presented for adoption in June.
