FOUR artists working in four different media have come together for a collective exhibition, Venus Rising: Four Emerging Women Artists, in the Art Gallery of Ballarat’s Backspace Gallery.

Ceramic sculptures, drawings, oil paintings and watercolour drawings are used by Myfanwy McLean, Rachel Power, Teira Stuart and Mel Jane Wilson respectively.

McLean’s works explores the juxtaposition of psychiatric medication as a treatment or a hindrance to mental illness.

Power uses her drawings to investigate and define escapism and illustrate the escape destinations.

Oil painting for Stuart is an outlet for her inner visions which become her reality on canvas.

“It is both a blessing and a joy to create in this way – there is a deeper world within, a world without end and l seek that which is unknown,” she said.

Wilson collects images and makes observations in the abstract and natural world that form the basis of her imagery in her water colours.

Venus Rising: Four Emerging Women Artists is at Backspace Gallery, Alfred Deakin Place, Camp Street Ballarat until Sunday, 7 July from 12pm to 4pm.
