Food network makes progress
THE Golden Plains Local Food Network met on Monday to continue creating an action plan to support the agriculture and food industries in the region.
The group discussed the local food needs assessment report prepared by Sustain: The Australian Food Network.
The findings of the report will be used to develop the action plan.
“The action plan will guide the development of a sustainable community food system strategy that supports the needs of local residents, identifies opportunities to strengthen local and regional food production through advocacy, ensures equitable access to local, healthy and sustainable food for residents, and builds community capacity through education and workshops in relation to food systems,” said a Golden Plains Shire spokesperson.
The network had their inaugural meeting a couple of months ago following a survey which was undertaken in January and a food forum held in March.
“The Golden Plains Local Food Network held its inaugural meeting in May to draft the network terms of reference and discuss introductory matters such as framework, roles and purpose,” said the spokesperson.
“Since then, the Network have appointed two rotating co-chairs and a wellbeing support role and have also met with the chair of the Ballarat Food Coalition.”
