HEARING Australia staff will be at Bannockburn Library next month providing free hearing checks.

Each check takes about 15 minutes and anyone aged 18 years or older can attend.

“You will listen to sounds through some headphones and your results will be discussed with you and any further recommendations made,” Hearing Australia community hearing advisor Elise De Smet said.

“We encourage people that have concerns about their child’s hearing to contact us on 13 44 32 to book a full assessment at one of our hearing centres.”

Ms De Smet said it is crucial people get their hearing checked every 12 months as the earlier hearing loss is diagnosed and treated, the better.

“It is important to have these hearing checks regularly even if people don’t think they have a hearing loss,” she said.

“A regular hearing check can help identify gradually developing hearing problems before they can significantly impact your hearing ability and become more difficult to treat.

“When hearing loss is left untreated it can increase the risk of other health conditions and lead to social withdrawal and low self-esteem.”

The hearing assessment will be available on Wednesday 6 August from 10.30am until 1pm.
