SPRING has well and truly sprung, and the Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens have been making the most of the growing season.

As a result, the organisation’s 365 strong membership have lot of plants, including vegetable and flower seedlings to give away!

Between 12 and 3pm this Sunday, 8 November, the FBBG are hosting an event called Seeding the Future. It’s happening at the North Gardens Pavilion, just next to the Gatekeeper’s Cottage.

“It’s a great way to celebrate gardening and the outdoors and coming out of COVID restrictions,” said FBBG committee member Elizabeth Gilfillan.

“The idea started as a way of being able to give back to the people of Ballarat, especially those who support the Gardens, and it fitted perfectly with Be Kind Ballarat and for our members to join in a worthwhile project.”

The many plants and seedlings to be given away for free have been grown by FBBG members at their homes using their own cuttings and seeds.

Described as a “growing marathon” the plants come in recycled containers and there’ll be plenty of varieties available.

Also taking place as part of Seeing the Future are activities run by the BOTANIKIDS team, as well as refreshments from juice and coffee stands.

The event will be COVID-safe, with masks and physical distancing required. To find out more visit bbg.org.au.
