Friday funday at the Show

FRIDAY night is set to be a big one at this year’s Ballarat Times 2023 Ballarat Show with fireworks, Tim’s Toasties, the chance to run an obstacle course and a live band.

The decision was made to move the fireworks show from the traditional time of Saturday night to the Friday to open the show with a bang.

“In the past the fireworks have always been on the Saturday night, but we wanted to have a bigger night for the opening night of the show,” said Jacqueline Kalogerakis, event coordinator.

“It also does allow us a little back up plan with Ballarat’s weather because if they can’t run on the Friday night, we can run them on the Saturday.”

Despite Ballarat no longer having a gazetted public holiday on Friday for Ballarat Show Day, there will still be plenty to see and do.

Before the fireworks get underway at around 9pm the Mast Gully Sellers will be playing on the McDonalds Main Stage from 8.10pm

PerFit Training Centre will also have an obstacle course set up in the afternoon providing the perfect afterschool activity for children.

“In the past the Friday was a public holiday which it now isn’t which is why we’re starting at 3pm instead,” said Ms Kalogerakis.

“We wanted to try and bring a few exciting elements on the Friday to show people we’ve got lots of activities going on.

“You can pick the kids up from school and come straight down to the show and enjoy the afternoon.”

Tim Bone is the ambassador of this year’s Show and he will be selling his toasties Friday evening.

“The Ballarat show is a local institution and it’s an amazing opportunity to be a part of it,” he said. “It’s a really massive honour to be asked to represent such an iconic event.”

Bone said he looking forward to the family-friendly and fun atmosphere of the Show.

“They’re really making the Friday night the local family Ballarat night which is fantastic,” he said.

“I’m really excited because my son who’s three-and-a-half hasn’t been to a Ballarat Show so I can’t wait to take him.

“If families haven’t been to the Ballarat show in a while come back in 2023 and make it the biggest show yet.”

The Ballarat Show will run from Friday 10 November to Sunday 12 November and tickets can be purchased at ballaratshow.org.au.
