SET for Sunday, 28 August at the Elaine Mechanic’s Institute Hall, a community meeting is aiming to bring the town and wider district together.

Event organiser and chairperson of the Elaine Mechanic’s Institute Hall committee Chris Guidotti said the effort was aiming to introduce the towns locals old and new.

“We lost our school. We’ve lost our church. We have nothing but a general store, petrol station and a hotel that’s sometimes open,” she said.

“Without these things, many people don’t have the ability to network.

“So, the idea is to bring people together and find out what people want to do and how we might be able to offer that so we can come together as a community.”

Stalls will be set up from 2pm showcasing groups like the Elaine CFA and the town’s tennis and cricket clubs.

Ms Guidotti has been a local for about 30 years, and said she hopes the event will bridge the gap between the town’s older and younger generations.

“We want to embrace new people into becoming part of the community. Our demographics are aged farmers so all that information needs to be passed on to our younger residents,” she said.

“There’d have to be a community demand for this. The tennis and cricket clubs are always advertising trying to get young people in too.”

“It just feels like we’ve lost our sense of heart, and we need that beating again. We just need some more people involved.”
