A NEW fitness bootcamp is underway at Linton where the community get social and move towards fitness.

Kate’s Bootcamp combines and range of cardio and strength training and can also help people gain confidence and make new friends.

Founder, Kate Grigson. said she was asked to host the sessions as there was a lack of something similar in the community.

“I was approached since my husband plays cricket for Linton and one of the main guys and his wife asked me to run some classes since there’s nothing local for fitness in town,” she said.

That lack of community fitness options in town was proving off putting for some people, as they need to travel for similar classes.

“Having to drive to Ballarat is off peoples’ priorities sometimes so having something local that’s only five minutes from home and they know who they’re exercising with is great,” said Ms Grigson.

“I think everybody needs to keep their body moving and keep healthy especially as they grow older.”

The sessions are held in the basketball stadium at Linton Recreation Reserve on Wednesday nights at 6pm, Friday nights at 5.45pm and every forth Sunday of the month at 9am.

“We hold them two nights a week and every forth Sunday for 45 minutes with a basic circuit and I try and do something different each class,” said Ms Grigson.

“It’s for every fitness level and every age with modifications available.

Ms Grigson said there were many benefits to participation both physical and social.

“It’s improving people’s bones and muscles and their overall fitness, and doing things like squats help you as you’re older sitting down,” she said.

“There’s also the social aspect because a few participants like me are new to Linton and they can meet people and build a little community.

“I hope people find them fun and want to come back and I hope they enjoy them and feel themselves getting stronger every week.”
