GOLDEN Plains Shire officers are asking members of the community for feedback to help steer the development of an upcoming Tracks and Trails strategy.

The plan will aim to guide the municipality’s approach to installing or maintaining public byways within the region.

People can offer their feedback via online survey or by attending one of two in-person workshops scheduled for later this month.

Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said upcoming development on the region’s tracks and trails project will be jointly funded with $60,000 between the municipality and State Government.

“Council was delighted to secure $30,000 from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure fund which will be matched by council to make the Tracks and Trails Strategy a reality,” he said.

“The Tracks and Trails Strategy will guide council’s future advocacy and investment in a trail network and help to increase active transport in Golden Plains.

“Improvements to tracks and trails across the Shire will allow for more local residents and visitors to explore and enjoy our region.”

The first workshop is set to take place at The Well at Smythesdale on Wednesday, 15 February followed by the second workshop at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre on Thursday, 16 February.

An online session will also take place on Tuesday, 21 February and all three workshops will run from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

The survey is open until Sunday, 26 February and can be completed online at the municipality’s website or as a physical copy to be picked up at the Golden Plains Shire customer service hubs.
