YOUNG people who are seeking a new opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community are encouraged to register their interest in a municipal working group.

Those aged between 12 and 24 years old are eligible to apply to become members of the Golden Plains Shire Youth Activation Committee.

“The Golden Plains Shire council youth development team is inviting young people who are community minded, advocacy focused and who want to make a positive difference for young people in their communities, to join the Youth Activation Committee,” said Golden Plains Shire manager community wellbeing Emma Wheatland.

“These emerging leaders can live, work, study or play in Golden Plains.”

The aim of the committee is to offer a platform where the voices and perspectives of young people can be shared and heard by Shire councillors and staff.

It’s also a chance to provide opportunities for young people to develop initiative and to become local community leaders.

“The Youth Activation Committee will meet fortnightly in a blended environment to plan events and activities that will improve the wellbeing and resilience of young people in Golden Plains,” Ms Wheatland said.

She said that there is also a goal for the program to complement the objectives of the Golden Plains Shire’s Community Vision 2040 for many years to come.

“Council is committed to delivering programs to ensure young people are connected, resilient and empowered to lead active and fulfilling lives,” Ms Wheatland said.

The Youth Activation Committee meets every second Tuesday, and the next meeting is Tuesday 4 July. Visit bit.ly/3qXpNPv to apply.
