Go your own way to tribute show
A TRIBUTE show celebrating one of the most successful bands of the 1970s is set to perform in Ballarat for the first time later this year.
Running in the Shadows – The Australian Fleetwood Mac Show has been recreating the iconic band’s songs since 2000, and will bring their act to town in April.
Keyboardist and Lindsay Buckingham singing-stand-in Gary Stewart said the group is keen to play Ballarat.
“I visited the area in 1987 and I’ve always wanted to come back,” he said. “We like to tour to places I’d like to travel to so this’ll be a bit of a sight-seeing tour.
“We were booked there about two years and we’ve finally got a date locked in so we’re keen to play.
“The music just stands the test of time. It’s fantastically written and as popular today as it was then. It’s a very interesting band to cover.”
Stewart co-founded the group in New Zealand with his wife Ursula Cain who fills the role of Stevie Nicks.
He said the show will feature a wide range of the band’s catalogue.
“We mainly cover the Rumours album which is their best-selling with all the hits and we cover quite a bit of Stevie Nicks through the 80s,” he said.
“We even cover two songs from the 60s and a couple of the Peter Green era stuff. A lot of people think of the band as being once the girls joined but they’ve been going since 1966.
“It’s mostly the hits but there’s a few obscure ones just for the real die-hard fans and we do a lot of the live versions with extended mixes with songs like Rhiannon, Go Your Own Way and Stand Back.”
Running in the Shadows – The Australian Fleetwood Mac Show will perform at the Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts on Saturday, 22 April.
Tickets range from $58 to $65 and can be booked at bit.ly/3Ro8a4G.
