Green theme for fundraising scheme
WITH term two underway, the Inverleigh Kindergarten Parent Committee is running their regular fundraiser, this time with a horticultural spin.
Their latest initiative, Good to Grow, will run throughout the month and is being facilitated for the first time through fundraiser support platform Fundraysia.
Committee vice-president Alison Doherty said although the money will go into a general pool, the group’s goal for this term will be on “livening” their garden for the kids.
“It’s quite dull and boring for the moment and the kids can’t do much out there so we’re wanting to make it a bit more interactive and safer for them,” she said.
“The best way to make the kids more engaged in the garden is to make it more colourful so they want to spend time there and learn and get involved.
“That means different activities like painting rocks and having our surface be safer for them with more seating.”
Fundraysia are providing garden tools, seeds and planting kits the purchase of which will go towards the fundraiser.
The items are for sale to everyone, and Ms Doherty said one of the aims of the fundraiser is to bridge the gap between Inverleigh’s primary school and kindergarten communities.
“They’re not as connected as we’d like to be, so we don’t want for there to be as much of a scary jump for the kids from kinder to school,” she said.
“We’re trying to get the whole community involved in this as much as we can by letting parents at both levels know, and hopefully it’ll have the add-on effect of integrating both kinder and older groups.
“I’m hoping it’ll do well. It’s a good time of year to be buying and we’ve got some beautiful little gifts in there for the kids as well.”
The fundraiser will run until Monday, 30 May.
