Guides achieve BP honour together

FIVE of Ballarat’s young people have just received the second highest award a Girl Guide can receive.

At the annual Guides Victoria Celebrate presentation recently, 11th Ballarat Girl Guides’s Gracie Sherman, Kaitlyn Pollock, Amy Chester, Maggie Browning and Alicia Pollock received the Baden-Powell Award.

Named after Guides Founder, Robert Baden-Powell, the honourees completed three challenges from each of the seven Australian Guides fundamentals, promise and law, Guiding traditions, service, patrol systems, outdoors and leadership to earn the award.

Twins, Kaitlyn and Alicia Pollock have enjoyed working towards their BP goal together.

“There was a group of us in our unit all trying to get this award. We worked together and helped each other out to feel accomplished together,” Kaitlyn said. “It broadens your horizon on what happens in the community, being able to go out and help with service and experiment with all different things happening.”

It’s been a challenge for Alicia, but a lot of fun.

“I’ve done all these different things that I wouldn’t have been able to without doing guides,” she said.

The awards were presented by Guides Victoria Central Highlands Region Manager, Louisa Watts. The awardees renewed their Guides Promise, gave family members Supporter Badges and cut their own celebration cakes.
