LOOKING for ways to keep your child active over the summer break?

A local tennis coach is seeking to provide that with a clinic offering to get kids out onto the courts next week.

Head coach of Attack Tennis Academy, and Teesdale and Bannockburn tennis clubs Julian Arnold will host three days of sporting sessions from 15 to 17 January.

He said he’s keen to encourage more young people to play tennis in the region.

“The aim is to give kids something to do over the holidays and also to attract new kids into the sport of tennis,” he said.

“Hopefully they enjoy it and they want to continue so that when the term starts in term one, we can hopefully get some new kids joining.

“From there, the idea is to get them to the point they can play competitions, join the club and play it as a sport.”

Now in his 25th year of coaching, Arnold has been providing lessons at Bannockburn for several years, and expanded his offerings to Teesdale last year.

He said the sessions will also be ideal for beginners.

“We’ll focus on skill development and play some fun games with maybe a bit of point-play match practice for those who are capable,” he said.

“I’ll have a couple coaches helping and it’ll probably be about five or six kids per coach.”

Each session will run from 9am to 12pm with individual days costing $44 or $110 for all three dates.
