Have a say about proposed telecommunications lease
GOLDEN Plains Shire council officers are asking the community to provide feedback on a proposed lease to a private telecommunications provider.
The 100-square-metre site is located at the northwest corner of the council-owned works depot on Wallace Street in Meredith.
Community consultation is required under the Local Government Act 2020 and CEO Shane Walden encouraged residents to have their say.
“As part of the Local Government Act 2020, Council must consult with the community before deciding whether to enter into this proposed lease,” he said.
“We encourage Meredith residents to share their views on this proposal, that could help address connectivity challenges and provide support for both community and economic development.
“Securing this site is an early step to prepare for future infrastructure installation.”
The project is in its early stages, with detailed planning to begin once the lease is secured.
Construction timelines are currently unknown.
Feedback can be submitted until Wednesday 11 December on the Golden Plains Shire website or at a customer hub in Bannockburn or Smythesdale.
