Healthy, active and celebrating
EDGYM sessions, Urban Upcycle arts and craft, hula hooping, Vegelicious activities, story reading, mini movers, fruit, tennis and soccer.
That’s just some of the fun planned by the Golden Plains Shire’s Child and Family Services team for this Wednesday’s Children’s Week celebration in Bannockburn.
Based at the YMCA Recreation Centre on 23 October, the free interactive kids’ event will champion healthy eating and active living, running from 10am to 12pm.
A free bus from Smythesdale and Rokewood will travel to the event making the morning more accessible for families. Seats can be booked by calling 5220 7230.
Council received a $700 grant from the State government to run the morning’s activities. Golden Plains Shire Mayor, Cr Owen Sharkey said his team is proud to unite the community to promote active living, healthy eating and have lots of fun.
“It’s fantastic to have funding support from the State government, and exciting that council has partnered with so many local organisations and groups to bring this wonderful event together,” he said.
“With transportation available from the north and centre of our shire, it will be great to see many of our Shire’s children and their families enjoying a fun-filled morning this Children’s Week.”
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney said Children’s Week is a chance to recognise the zest young people bring to the area.
“Children’s Week is a fantastic national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of our children,” she said.
