THE Woady Yaloak Historical Society has received reaccreditation as part of the 2024 cohort of the Community Museum Accreditation Program, or CMAP.
The program assists sustainable, volunteer-run organisations with access to industry experts and knowledge.
The reaccreditation review process takes place every six years and provides the society with status and ensures its practices align with current standards.
“It’s more about having recognition… and for grants and things it assists us with getting support,” society president Kylie Fenton said.
“It brings a lot of validity to what we do.”
The society was required to submit significant documentation about their goals, business plan, storage of collections, digital footprint and more.

A site visit was conducted in October 2024 to ensure written documentation was accurate.
“We have to prove and demonstrate a lot of areas,” Ms Fenton said.
“Some of them is how we store our collections, some of them cover our recording, so digital is a big place now.”
The reaccreditation acknowledges the work of the society to research and represent diverse stories within the community as well as its consideration of new technologies.
It also recognises that the organisation has been successful in several grant applications and continues to apply for more to ensure sustainability.
