Hop along to the Creswick rabbit show
RABBIT breeders, exhibitors and bunnies by the colony will be at the Northern Country Rabbit Club’s annual show in Creswick on Saturday 22 June.
Amanda Hines, Secretary of Northern Country Rabbit Club said the club is expecting around 10 to 15 breeders to show somewhere between 50 to 150 rabbits.
“The ultimate aim of the breeders is to take away the Best in Show prize,” Ms Hines said.
James Wilson, two-star all breeds show judge, will be making the decisions and awarding all the category winners, after vetting when all the animals are health checked to ensure they do not have any diseases or contagions.
The fun part of the show is at 12pm when the pet show for the younger bunny owners begins.
It is an opportunity for kids to enter any or all of the ten categories of novelty classes that are judged, and awarded ribbons and prizes, for the likes of the smallest bunny, the one with the biggest ears or the twitchiest nose and the best fancy dress.
Victoria has a strong rabbit breeder cohort. Ms Hines estimates there are about 30-50 registered breeders in the state who comply with the standard issued by the British Rabbit Club.
“This doesn’t include people who breed rabbits, which are often not health checked, and sell from home or via online sites such as Gumtree,” she said.
The Northern Country Rabbit Club’s Creswick show is at the Creswick Scout Hall, 7 North Parade Creswick on Saturday, 22 June from 10am to 4pm.
The pet show is from 12-12.30pm, entry is $5.
