How do you see the future of Lake Burrumbeet?

THE Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning has launched a process looking at how to manage Lake Burrumbeet’s shore.

Known as the Lake Burrumbeet’s Future Project, department’s staff were on site on Australia Day chatting to visitors to gain an understanding of their future expectations and how the area is used.

Now DELWP is inviting the community to have their say on the future of the region.

Since the project began the government has been gathering feedback from project partners about important issues, risks and opportunities relevant to Lake Burrumbeet.

“We are [now] asking community members to share with us their ideas and aspirations for Lake Burrumbeet,” said Christine Ferguson DELWP Grampians regional director.

“Lake Burrumbeet is a magnificent resource on our doorstep, particularly for our expanding Lucas communities and is popular for a range of recreational activities, including walking, camping, boating and fishing.”

As the area is immensely important to the Wadawurrung traditional owners with significant cultural heritage and natural values, the project team has undertaken a cultural heritage assessment with the support of Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation.

Mrs Ferguson said, “Feedback from visitors, neighbours and our wider community will help create a community vision that will guide how Lake Burrumbeet is managed into the future.”

In the short term some on-ground improvements are planned including increasing compliance, signage, basic facilities and better roads.
