GOLDEN Plains Shire staff are reminding residents of the correct way to dispose of hay or silage bale net wrap.

Net wrap cannot be recycled via the kerbside recycling system because it can cause problems with the machinery which processes the materials.

“Hay or silage bale net wrap cannot be recycled through council’s kerbside recycling system and may lead to significant disruptions in the sorting machinery at the Material Recovery Facility,” said a Golden Plains Shire spokesperson.

“Hay or silage bale net wrap should not be placed in the yellow-lidded recycling bin.

“Small quantities can be bagged and placed in the red-lidded waste bin.”

Large quantities of hay or silage bale net wrap can be disposed of at a transfer station.

“Council requests that residents bring hay or silage bale net wrap to their closest Transfer Station,” said the spokesperson.

“Golden Plains Shire’s transfer station is located in Rokewood, and there are also nearby transfer stations in Geelong, Ballarat and Snake Valley.

“Council greatly appreciates the community’s efforts in effective waste disposal which helps improve the efficiency of our kerbside collection system.”
