Ideas sought on future of trees
COMMUNITY members are invited to give their feedback on the Golden Plains Shire’s draft Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan, now accessible to the public.
The plan has been written to create guidelines for maintaining both significant old trees, and new ones, and taking out and replacing Inverleigh’s trees into the future.
Shire officers are now consulting with locals to decide the ideal tree species to plant along Inverleigh’s eastern entrance.
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the perspectives of all Inverleigh residents about what species should be planted is important.
“The Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan has been developed in partnership with the community and council is pleased to provide further opportunity for feedback on the plan and the trees to be planted, to ensure the plantings meet the expectations of the community,” he said.
“The plan is now on public exhibition and council hopes that community members will review the plan.
“I also encourage all Inverleigh locals to share their thoughts on the tree species they’d like to see by completing the survey.”
High-risk tree pruning is set for December at the east and west entrances to Inverleigh.
Trees identified as needing removal throughout the planning process are then expected to be cut down, and the soil will be prepared for autumn planting.
The Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan was endorsed at the last regular council meeting in October. Feedback will be received until 5pm, Friday, 25 November, and considered ahead of the Tuesday, 29 November council meeting.
