Inspiring breakfast and book launch
EXTRAORDINARY stories will be told over breakfast next Thursday at 6.30am at the Regent Cinema.
Dr Richard Harris, who played a major role in the rescue of 12 boys and their soccer coach in a cave in Thailand, will join CEO of the KIDS Foundation Dr Susie O’Neill for a morning of inspiring stories.
Dr O’Neill created KIDS Foundation in 1993 after witnessing first-hand the lack of support children with serious injuries receive after leaving the hospital.
She said many children supported by the KIDS Foundation have suffered life-changing physical injuries.
“A lot of them will come to the foundation and they’ve given up on life, then they have one meeting that then leads on to a program where they’re healthier now and they’re achieving and doing some great things,” she said.
Dr O’Neill said a chance encounter with Dr Harris resulted in him becoming a key ambassador of KIDS Foundation and supported or Dr O’Neill’s new book When bad things happen good things can grow.
“He said whilst you encourage children to build self-awareness and be safety aware, you don’t bubble wrap them and you just let them be kids and that really resonated with me,” Dr O’Neill said.
Her book includes “40 inspiring stories of people that have come into the life of the foundation”, including children that have suffered from burns, accidents, attacks and abuse.
Tickets to the event can be found at bit.ly/3B5GOb5 with all proceeds going to the KIDS Foundation.
