Keep your first aid skills up to date
COMMUNITY members who want to keep their first aid and CPR training up to date are being invited to complete a course at Haddon Community Learning Centre.
Participants who complete the course will acquire an accreditation that complies with workplace health and safety requirements.
While CPR training is required to be undertaken annually, the first aid certificate will last three years.
The course involves one day of training on Tuesday 23 January from 9am until 5pm and a pre-course online component must also be completed.
Participants are also asked to ensure they have a unique student identifier, or USI, which can be obtained online.
Manager of Haddon Community Learning Centre, Joan Coker, said it is particularly important for people living in rural areas to have first aid training.
“A lot of communities are isolated and even if you’re at home I think it’s very important,” she said.
“We had a couple of people who had ill husbands and they wanted to be able to do it at home because sometimes ambulances don’t get there.
“So it’s very important for us in the country to have this knowledge.”
Ms Coker said having the first aid certificate is also very attractive to recruiters.
“If you’re going for a job, it’s really important that you have a CPR training certificate,” she said.
“It’s one tick off for the person who’s interviewing you.”
