Labor drops Ripon recount appeal

LABOR has dropped action calling for a recount of the 2018 state electoral result of Ripon that saw their candidate, Sarah De Santis defeated by 15 votes.

The Court of Disputed Returns confirmed the news last Monday, and current Member for Ripon, Louise Staley will remain in her role, having received 50.02 per cent of the vote after preference distribution.

A spokesperson for Victorian Labor said internal assessment with scrutineers concluded a recount would be unsuccessful.

Ms Staley said she was honoured to remain the area’s representative.

“I have fought very, very hard to be here.

I thank my legal team, my scrutineers, my supporters and the Liberal Party for all they have done towards today’s outcome.”
