LINTON’S community green spaces will soon be spruced by the Progress Association’s Gardening Group.

Members including Mardi Reilly are aiming to get the town’s streetscape looking its best. They’re seeking ideas, suggestions and the help of fellow local green thumbs.

“Linton is such a pretty town, it now just needs loving, so that’s what we want to do, bring the love back to Linton,” she said.

“We want to do a garden bed on the corner of Gillespie and Sussex Street, similar to the pretty gardens you see in Ballarat. Edinburgh Reserve needs quite a bit of attention.

“We’ve nearly finished the community garden space next to our police station, where we’re putting in a new seating area. We’re doing this so Linton is a destination, rather than a place to journey through.”

Anybody that lives in the township, is interested in gardening and the area’s beautification is invited to take action by joining the LDPA Gardening Group at 10am outside the Shire Hall on the first Saturday of every month.

“We’ve started tackling the Sussex Street median strip, and now we’re tackling each garden bed around the pear trees on the footpath, on both sides of the road,” Ms Reilly said.

“We’ve also started a Garden Club, where once a month on a Saturday at 2pm we visit somebody’s open garden in Linton, have a chat and a wander around.

“It’s all about getting people inspired to want to live in a prettier town, and to take pride in where they live. The streetscape projects are little steps, before we branch out into side streets, or help those needing assistance with their home gardens.”

The Gardening Group’s activities will be listed every month in the Linton Newsletter. For more information contact Ms Reilly on 0419 543 073.
