Learn the art of tai chi in Haddon
PEOPLE are invited to head to the Haddon Community Learning Centre to de-stress with weekly tai chi classes.
The sessions run by Karyn Kelly take place on Wednesdays from 10.45am to 11.45am and cost $8.
“It is a practice of slow, meditative exercise designed for relaxing and health,” she said.
“Each class involves slow and controlled movement to improve flexibility, muscle strength, balance and wellbeing.”
Anyone can do tai chi, with a range of exercises and modifications available.
“There is also no right or wrong, it is an opportunity to challenge your body’s boundaries and have a go,” said Ms Kelly.
“You can do it sitting down or standing and everything can be modified to suit an individual.”
Ms Kelly has education in the field, including the opportunity to train under a grand master in China in 2018.
“That was really wonderful, daunting, exciting, scary and way outside the comfort zone, but it did enable me to grow as a person and foster an even greater passion for tai chi,” she said.
Ms Kelly said it’s hoped the classes will provide a way for the community to come together and de-stress.
“It helps to ground you, take a deep breath and step away from the crazy world for a moment,” she said.
“It also provides social connections within the community and so many people are chatting with their friends before the classes.”
