AWARD-winning multidisciplinary artist Samantha Thompson will be hosting a lino printing workshop at Bannockburn Library next week.
The free workshop will run from 5pm until 7pm, and participants will get to take home a completed artwork.
“Linocut is a type of print making and it’s foundation is from work carving,” Thompson said.
“You use sharp tools, and you cut out a linocut that’s made for artists and it’s quite soft, and you ink it up and press it and it’s like a large stamp.
“Everybody gets a piece of linocut, and I help them with their ideas and we work together to create something that’s achievable in the time frame.”
Thompson said lino printing is a relaxing form of art, particularly for people who enjoy tactile activities.
“It’s another form of being creative and it’s very tactile,” she said.
“I find a lot of men like it because it’s very hands on.
“For older children it’s very good and quite often parents and guardians will come with an older child, and they’ll work together.”
The workshop is part of Golden Plains Shire and Geelong Regional Libraries’ Take Part in Local Art program which aims to foster creative collaboration within the community.
Thompson said she is supportive of the initiative which provides work for local artists.
“First and foremost, it pays local artists, and they are working in the community,” she said.
“It’s somewhere where they don’t constantly have to go to Melbourne and creates connection in the community.”
