Lending library to spark imagination
FOLLOWING calls from the community, the Woady Yaloak Historical Society have installed a children’s lending library outside their office.
Located at The Well at Smythesdale, the aim of the project is to encourage local kids to read.
Children can read, borrow, swap or donate books.
“We’ve already had children through, and parents have been aware it and said they’ll help donate books and rotate books,” Glynis Bennett, Woady Yaloak Historical Society member said.
“Everyone who has seen it has been really, really happy… it’s encouraging kids to read and that’s what it’s all about.”
The installation of the lending library coincided with Children’s Week which ran from Saturday 18 October until Sunday 28 October.
Ms Bennett said there are lots of benefits to reading.
“It’s better to have [children] reading and using their imagination to put a face or an image to what there are reading,” she said.
“It helps their imagination, and I think that’s a good thing for them.”
